Nothing in the world is quite like Vail, Colorado. Add in the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail, and you've got heaven on earth. The Four Seasons is one of the first things you see when entering the history-rich village of Vail. When you first arrive at the Resort, you are immediately greeted by the most welcoming staff. They made us feel right at home and while we waited for our room to be ready (we arrived in the late morning from Aspen), we had an early lunch on their patio overlooking the mountains at The Remedy Bar. We stayed in the beginning of June for two nights, right before the start of the summer season. The resort just underwent a complete renovation and I have to say it is gorgeous. It has a contemporary, mountain-chic feel and everything feels so fresh.
Days before our trip to the Four Seasons, we were notified about the Four Seasons App. The App made our trip seamless, from letting the resort know when we would be arriving, to booking a spa reservation. They even had a text feature that I could use if something required immediate attention. I wish every hotel had this feature.
We stayed in a Resort View Room with two double beds and it was the perfect size for our family of four. Our room included a gas fireplace, along with a living area, large closet, and views of the mountains. The staff had the sweetest surprise in store for Caroline and Charlie when we got to the room. A tent filled with goodies for them to play with, stuffed animals, treats, and robes/slippers.
After we checked out our room and unpacked, we headed into the village of Vail. Troster and I had been to Vail years ago, so we were excited to show the kids and see what had changed. We took a nice walk to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens from the resort and it was nice to stretch our legs after our drive from Aspen. The walk to the garden is beautiful, cobblestone paths and bridges with wildflowers everywhere. We discovered a gem of a playground along the way, a pirate ship playground! As you can imagine, that was a hit with the kids.
The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is a must visit when in Vail. It is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens I've ever visited. It is such a peaceful spot and you'll leave feeling refreshed with ideas for your own garden. The children's garden is a lovely place for the children to discover and play. They even get to partake in a scavenger hunt with a prize at the end. As you can imagine, Caroline and Charlie loved this part of the visit.
When we were finished at the garden, we headed back into the village and explored the shops. We knew the next day would be full of adventure with the resort, so this was our only chance to check everything out.
We had planned to go out for a nice dinner, but the kids were tuckered out after a day of exploring. It actually worked out perfectly and we had dinner delivered to the pool (Did I mention that kids under 5 eat free at the resort too?) The kids enjoyed splashing around and it was just what we all needed.
The next day was unlike anything I have ever experienced. The wonderful thing about any Four Seasons Resort is that they can make your trip completely personalized. When we started planning our trip, we knew we wanted to do some sort of an excursion with the kids. I was fortunate enough to work with the Four Seasons team to try out a few new experiences that they are launching.
After a delightful breakfast at The Remedy Bar outside on the patio by the fire, we headed out on the road in their new Mercedes G Wagon for an excursion. (Your stay at the FS Vail includes complimentary use of their house car). Our excursion included a simple hike to accommodate the kids along with a prepared picnic lunch by the resort's Sous Chef, Veronica Gibbs. The wonderful thing about Vail is their are so many hiking spots that are close nearby.
After our guided hike, we enjoyed a delicious lunch by the water that included all of our favorite things. Various gourmet sandwiches, a cheese board, drinks, all tucked in a picnic basket complete with serving ware and a picnic blanket. It was so nice to not have to worry about preparing lunch and just get to relax. After lunch, we headed back to the resort where I made my way to the spa.
My time at the Spa was just what I needed to unwind. As you know, traveling with kids can be a little tiring. I received the Aromatherapy Massage that included a blend of essential oils. Afterwards, I headed to the plunge pool area, followed by the slumber room to do some more relaxing and enjoy some quiet.
For dinner that evening, the Four Seasons team planned an experience for our family that I'll never forget. As you know, I love cooking and that evening I got to play chef in the gorgeous Northwoods Private Residence. Sous Chef, Veronica Gibbs prepped a three course meal for me to prepare for the family. She provided easy to follow recipes and it was the most fun cooking it all in a gourmet kitchen. We had the comforts of home, but still felt like we were on vacation.
The Four Seasons Vail is pure luxury, but you also feel completely at home. We are already planning our next trip to Vail and I cannot wait.
